Advanced Rhythm Concepts

Rhythm and its structures are the most important weapon of musicians. The better a musician understands rhythm, the more choices he has for deeper expression and musicality.

The course will introduce musicians to a wider world of rhythmic structures.

Emphasis will be placed on understanding how different uses of rhythm can create new ideas for composition or improvisation.

The topics of the study will include shifting rhythmic groups, groupings of eighths and sixteenths and how to use them in even and odd meters.

Students who will attend must be able to improvise and have an understanding of basic styles (swing, funk, latin), as the course is about studying rhythmic concepts that apply to any style.
