Greek Music Ensemble

Αρχική Departments Musical Ensembles Greek Music Ensemble

The Greek Music Ensemble explores Greek song from the post-dictatorship period to the present day, combining repertoire study with rhythm, harmony and melodic development.

Working with representative songs from different periods, students explore the rhythmic, harmonic and melodic elements that have shaped the sound and character of contemporary Greek music.

The course is practical and ensemble-based, combining musical analysis with performance. Particular emphasis is placed on harmonic progressions, rhythmic patterns and melodic phrasing, as well as on developing a clear understanding of each musician’s role within the group.

Through regular ensemble work, participants strengthen their listening skills, musical interaction and sense of collaboration, while gaining first-hand experience of different styles and periods within the Greek repertoire.

The Ensemble is open to instrumentalists of all kinds, as well as singers. Basic music-reading skills and the ability to follow chord charts are required.
