George Drakos teaches Electric Guitar at Musical Praxis Conservatory.
Studies
George Drakos was born in Athens in 1996, where he also grew up. He began piano lessons at an early age and later studied electric guitar. In 2014, alongside his studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Department of Communication and Mass Media), he began his music studies at the Mousiki Praxi Conservatory, from which he graduated in 2024. He studied electric guitar with S. Pomonis and G. Argyropoulos, and Advanced Music Theory with N. Panagiotakis.
He is a graduate of the University of West London (LLCM – Level 6 Diploma in Music Teaching – Electric Guitar, 2024) and holds a Master’s degree from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London (MMus in Performance, 2025). He also holds diplomas in Classical Harmony (2020), Counterpoint (2022), and Fugue (2024), under the supervision of N. Panagiotakis.
He specialized in musical idioms such as pop-rock, blues, soul, and gypsy jazz through workshops with D. Koskinas, G. Dimakos, S. Pomonis, and Al. Dandoulakis, while also attending seminars in Music Production and Technology with Ch. Karatzas. He has participated in masterclasses with Julian Lage, Nir Felder, Greg Koch, Kirk Fletcher, Aaron Forbes, Haydn Bentall, and Wendy Parr.
Educational Activity
Since 2016, he has been teaching electric and acoustic guitar, music theory, harmony, and ensemble playing. As an educator, he has been collaborating with the Mousiki Praxi Conservatory since 2017 and the Mousiki Ekpaidefsi Conservatory since 2025, while he also worked with the guitar school GiG (2022–2024).
Professional Activity
He soon developed an interest in 20th- and 21st-century music and contemporary forms of composition, creating works for solo instruments, small ensembles, and choir. His works have been presented, among others, at the Athens Concert Hall, the Goethe-Institut, and the University of Ioannina, as well as in London (Chaos?). One of his works was also selected for performance during the 70th anniversary celebrations of the “Friends of Music Society.”
As a guitarist and arranger, he has collaborated — both live and in the studio, recording in renowned studios such as Abbey Road — with artists and ensembles from Greece (Vasiliki Michalopoulou, Christos Loufis, Christos Kourtoflou, Alexandros Koufadakis, Mistreaters – Deep Purple Tribute Band, Markopoulo Philharmonic, among others), as well as from Europe and the USA (Ziggy Sixx).
